Prof. Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, Minister for Env't, Science, Technology and Innovation
Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Professor Frimpong Boateng, has denied ordering Muslim leaders to use WhatsApp as a means of calling members for prayers.
Professor Frimpong Boateng at a press conference on Tuesday 10th April allegedly urged Muslim leaders in the country to use text messages to call their members to prayers instead of using megaphones.
That, according to him, will help reduce noise pollution in the country.
However, in an interview with Ekourba Gyasi on Atinka AM Drive, Professor Frimpong Boateng explained that his comment had been distorted and taken out of context.
According to him, his comment was only a suggestion after a media person asked a question with regards to noise pollution in the country. He mentioned that in his response, he urged both Muslims and Christians to limit the level of noise when worshipping.
“What I said was that it would be nice for Muslims as well as other religious bodies to for instance call for worship through WhatsApp messages. It was only a suggestion which is debatable and not binding”, he said.
