Legendary Ghanaian player Mohammed Ahmed Polo has shared his insights on why his former team, Accra Hearts of Oak, has been underperforming recently.

He believes that the current generation of players lacks the submissiveness to follow instructions and advice, unlike in the past.

Polo also mentioned that the club's struggles might be linked to spiritual issues, which he finds hard to comprehend.

“During our generation, we were very submissive to advice, but today it’s different. That’s why they are suffering. I also think there is something spiritual; they do a lot of things, it’s clear,” he said in Twi during an interview with Oyerepa FM on August 15, 2024.

Polo further revealed that the Pobiman Sports Complex project, undertaken by Hearts of Oak, was funded with money that his teammates were not paid during their careers with the club.

“The Pobiman Sports Complex was built with our money. Sometimes we weren’t paid, and that’s what they used to start the project,” he added.

Accra Hearts of Oak have been struggling in the Ghana Premier League (GPL) for the past three seasons, failing to win the league or other major trophies.

During the 2024/25 GPL season, the Phobia club battled relegation for most of the season and only survived after the last matchday game.

Several legends have raised concerns about the club’s poor performance and have called on the board members to implement measures to restore the club’s glory, as it is one of the most successful sides from Ghana on the African continent.
