Kumasi Asante Kotoko are back in Africa after the FIFA normalisation committee for the Ghana Football Association granted the request of the Porcupine Warriors to represent in Africa.

Kotoko competed in the same competition this season but were eliminated by Congo’s CARA Brazzaville in the preliminary round.

The Kofi Amoah-led committee had previously met Ghana football club owners on October 19 at Alisa Hotel where the decision not to enter Ghanaian clubs for the 2018/19 CAF club competitions was taken.

But the Ghanaian giants, represented by its General Manager George Amoako in the Alisa Hotel meeting petitioned the normalisation committee to review the big decision in order to allow them participate in the Confederation Cup relying on the CAF regulations that qualifies Kotoko to compete in the competition as holders of the last Ghana FA Cup competition once the current season is stopped indefinitely.

“If for any any reason , the national cup of a federation did not take place, the federation in question has the right to submit the participation request of the same club (s) engaged having played the national cup and the national league from the previous season” the CAF regulation states.

The normalisation committee was of the opinion that it is proper for Ghana football to reform following the Anas expose before clubs can go to Africa but that argument was defeated since the Ghana U-17 national Male’s team were another subjects of the Tiger Eye Pi video but still competed in the Africa Cup of Nations qualification tournament in Niger.

The position of Asante Kotoko was that the CAF regulations supersedes the 19 October decision of the normalisation committee and the club owners.

The 2018/19 CAF Confederaion Cup starts November 27th and ends 26 May 2019 and Ghana’s representative will be C.K Akonnor’s team.
