North Tongu NDC boils

There is a seeming tension in the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in North Tongu constituency of the Volta region over what can be described as clandestine moves by the constituency Chairman, Mr. Amenudor Moses, alias Tony, and his cohorts to manipulate the recently organised Biometric Voters Registration (BVR) exercise in the area.

The move, this paper gathered, has incurred the wrath of NDC members in the constituency as they see it as an attempt to delete about seven thousand four hundred and fifty (7,450) names of qualified delegates from the BVR in the North Tongu constituency.

According to sources, Mr. Amenudor and his allies took that decision, alleging that those names on the BVR of the NDC were supporters and members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

That worrying development, sources told Today, has become a subject of a raging controversy between the North Tongu constituency chairman and the youth in some villages and towns of the various traditional areas including Juapong, Mepe, Battor, Aveyime, Volor, Kpoedoe, Dorfor-Adidome, Agorxor, Avedze, Kluma and Torgorme.

Today also learnt that many party supporters and members in the constituency were against Mr. Amenudor’s move to delete those names from the biometric voters register because of what they described as his “bad administrative style.”

Consequently, Today learnt that the development has seen some party foot-soldiers vow to oppose any attempt by the constituency chairman to disenfranchise them in the NDC primaries.

When this paper contacted Mr. Amenudor on Wednesday, September 23, 2015, via telephone, he confirmed his plan to delete those names, claiming that they were supporters and members of the NPP but was quick to decline comment on the issue further.

"Can you tell me the names of those supporters and members of the NDC in Gbavie Divisional Clan of Mepe Traditional Area you (referring to this reporter) are alleging I wanted to delete from the register,” he asked?

"...then if you cannot mention the names of the people one by one, l am also not going to talk to you further on the matter,” he added.

Speaking to Today in an interview, some aggrieved delegates of Mepe, Juapong, Battor and Aveyime in North Tongu expressed worry about the conduct of Mr. Amenudor.

One of the delegates, Mr. Jerry Agboyigbor, alleged that the chairman‘s intention was to ensure that some of the delegates who were suspected to be supporters of one of the parliamentary aspirants, Mr. Christophe Kofi Eleblu, were disenfranchised.

He further alleged that the people of Juapong were not allowed to register because Mr. Amenudor considered that area as an electoral stronghold of Mr. Eleblu.
