The fight against the Novel Corona Virus, officially known as COVID-19 is heated up as the Northern Regional Women's organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Hajia Rahana Abdul-Aziz has today, March 31, 2020 distributed hand sanitizers to women (traders) in the central business district of Tamale.

She visited individual shops distributing about 2000 hand sanitizers in total to traders in the Central and Aboabo markets respectively in the Tamale metropolis.

Hajia Rahana also sensitized the traders on how to practice the safety measures and stay safe from the virus while selling in the markets.

The Northern Regional Women's organizer of NPP addressing the media after the donation said she observed that some traders in the markets had little or no information about the COVID-19 pandemic and its consequences.

She therefore appealed to the Information Services Department to do more public sensitization in the markets, as it appears the Television and Radio sensitization is not really making an impact on our market folks.

Hajia Rahana said she was doing her bit for the wellbeing of society as her social responsibility in these trying times of the nation.

Traders were overwhelmed with the gesture, showing appreciation with words of praises.

This move is in line with the government’s efforts to combat the pandemic.

Ghana recorded her first confirmed two cases of COVID-19 worldwide pandemic on March 12, 2020, when two people returnees from Norway and Turkey tested positive.

Since then, the number of COVID-19 cases have been on the rise in the country, with Tamale recording ten confirmed cases on March 29, 2020, which increased the number of Ghana's confirmed cases to 152.

The ten confirmed cases in Tamale were imported cases of some Guinea and Burkinabe nationals who are believed to have smuggled their way to the country through Togo.
