Ablekuma West Legislator Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has told Radio XYZ she finds nothing wrong with ladies wearing miniskirts to church.

She told XYZ Breakfast Show Host Moro Awudu that: “Some people may find it offensive [but] frankly, to be quite honest with you, I don’t”.

The vice president of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIIDA), argued that: “I see it as young people expressing their individuality, so let them come to church and let the message hit them. But don’t ostracise them, don’t point fingers at them, don’t make them feel unwelcome,” adding that: “Jesus associated with tax collectors and prostitutes.”

Owusu-Ekuful’s views on wearing miniskirts to church followed admonishing by the General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Dr Mensa Otabil, that Christians must be neither judgmental of, nor turn away miniskirt wearing ladies from the church, but rather welcome them and allow the Holy Spirit to work on them.

“There are people who come to church in all kinds of state. And there are some Christians who are very intolerant. They see some women who come to church - maybe with a short skirt - and they [grumble]: ‘The judgment of God, the fire will burn you.’

“Let them come with their short skirts”, Dr Otabil urged the church, “and let the Holy Spirit begin to work on them”.

According to Pastor Otabil, “it is not about how you dress. It is about Jesus in you. And when you become a disciple of Christ, your dressing will change. I guarantee you that your dressing will change”.

“So instead of being cruel, be kind and allow people to grow spiritually, then the physical manifestations will show,” Dr Otabil admonished his congregation.

He added: “And after the Holy Spirit has worked on you for a long time, you add one more inch to your skirt and after a few more time, you add a few more inches and after a long time, you add another inch”.
