Nsaba Secondary School PTA endorses extra classes

Agona Nsaba, March 31, GNA - The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of the Nsaba Presbyterian Secondary School has resolved that the school authorities should start conducting extra classes for a fee. Mr Paa Kojo Bimpong Manful, the school's PTA Chairman, announced this at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Association at Agona Nsaba at the weekend said: "There is the need for the school authorities to conduct extra classes for our children to enhance their academic performances in order to excel in their final examinations."

Mr Manful said parents were well prepared to pay at least a token amount to inspire the tutors to give of their best, adding that many other senior secondary schools were organizing extra classes for their students. Upon directives from the Ghana Education Service (GES) last term, the school authorities refunded monies paid by the parents for the conduct of extra classes. The Chairman urged parents to co-operate with tutors and the administrative staff to promote the welfare of the students.

Mr Sam Kwamena Ansah, Headmaster of the school, appealed to the PTA to always seek the consent of the GES if they wanted the school's authorities to conduct extra classes even though the tutors were ever prepared to do it. Mr Ansah said the school authorities could not organize extra classes without prior approval from the PTA and the GES. He said the school administration had put in place an effective mechanisms, such as incentives to tutors, training workshops and the provision of teaching materials to enhance effective teaching and learning. Mr Ansah warned that any student who did not perform creditably would be withdrawn from the school since the board and management wanted better results at the end of students' three-year course. He also cautioned that tutors whose performance was below expectation would not be entertained in the school.
