#Number12 must lead to severe sanctions – Ablakwa

The investigative piece done by investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, that uncovered rot within the Ghana Football Association (GFA), must necessarily translate into a vigorous demand for credible and independent sweeping reforms with severe sanctions within the political and sporting fraternity, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has said.

In the video, the GFA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi who is currently being investigated by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, is seen allegedly collecting bribe and also using the names of President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to solicit bribes in the Anas documentary.

After the premiering of the video on Wednesday June 6, Mr Ablakwa wrote on his Facebook page that : “A nation in shock. A time to reassess the values that drive us. Meanwhile, our outrage following the latest Anas investigative piece must necessarily translate into a vigorous demand for credible and independent sweeping reforms with severe sanctions within our political and sporting fraternity.

“Our prayers are with Anas this morning - Ghana desperately needs him. It is our expectation that the State will provide Anas enhanced security especially in the face of unwarranted attacks by certain misguided elements in society. May God save this Republic.”

Nyantakyi has said that the public should not misconstrue his apology and resignation from the GFA to be an admission of guilt to accusations leveled against him in the Number 12 documentary by Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

“I wish to apologise to my family, work colleagues, friends, associates and the people of Ghana for the disappointment my indiscretion has caused them.

This is by no means an admission of wrongdoing for issues on the video”, Mr Nyantakyi said in a statement sent to the GFA General Secretary on Friday 8 June 2018 after a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Association.
