Bawku (U/E), July 28, GNA - The Apostolic Nuncio in Ghana, Most Rev Leone Kalenga Badikebele, has praised Ghana for earning high reputation and respect in the world as the beacon of democracy and peace in Africa and appealed to citizens to sustain and promote it at all times. He said as the light of Africa it is the duty of leadership from government, religion and traditional authority to coordinate effectively to ensure that ethnic sentiments are not flared to engulf the peace that all Ghanaians in their own ways have contributed to bring.
The Nuncio, who was on a pastoral visit to the four dioceses in the three northern regions, said Ghana had the potential and duty to serve Africa in view of its enormous experience and achievements at dispensing democracy and respect for the rule of law. Most Reverend Badikebele said this at Bawku when he paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of the Bawku, Naba Asigiri Abugurago Azoka II, and to say mass at the Bawku Catholic church as part of his weeklong pastoral visit to the Navrongo-Bolgatanga diocese. He said leaderships are ordained by God and as leaders they are obliged to serve humanity no matter the circumstances they might find themselves and appealed to the Bawku Naba to foster peace in his traditional area.
Naba Asigiri Abugurago Azoka praised the Nuncio for making time to visit the area and said his traditional council is trying to broker peace to ensure that life gets back to normal.
He said he appreciates the need for peace and he could not rule over an uninhabited area, adding that his wish is to ensure that his people live in a healthy, stable and peaceful condition.
The Nuncio earlier visited the Bawku Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Abdulai Abanga, and said the Catholic Church is determined to continue to bring infrastructure development to the area especially the construction of schools to enable children of school going age to be enrolled in schools. The DEC expressed gratitude to the Catholic Church for its role at trying to bring peace to the area as well as the provision of educational infrastructure, adding that as a result of the conflict, it has been difficult for children to have uninterrupted access to school. At the Catholic Church in Bawku where the Nuncio preached, he emphasized the need for peace.
