Nungua Mantse Not Destooled, Say Elders

The elders of the Nungua Stool have warned the public to be wary of unscrupulous people parading as chiefs and kingmakers of Nungua adding that any person found selling the Nungua Stool Land without the consent of the Nungua Mantse would face the full rigorous of the law.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Friday, the acting Nungua Mantse, Nii Zaggor Okle Otoo said it is erroneous for the caretaker of the Katamanso stool, Nii Otu Akwetey to claim to be the legitimate chief of Nungua stating that Katamanso is only a village under the Nungua Stool.

He said Nii Odai Ayiku IV who is still in exile due to political harassment during the PNDC era is still the legitimate chief of Nungua and it is erroneous the statement by Nii Akwetey that he had been destooled. "Traditionally it is only the kingmakers who have the power to enstool or destool a chief, as the case may be. Nii Odai Ayiku IV has never been destooled."

He told the press that Nii Ayiku IV was forced into exile by the Provisional National Defense Council (PNDC) headed by Mr. Rawlings because he failed to succumb to their demands. He said, "all manner of false charges were leveled against him (Nii Ayiku)" because of his attempt to impose stricter control over Nungua Stool Lands.

He said a Judicial Committee was set up by the Ga Traditional Council at the time, to probe the allegations but the accusers failed to turn up compelling the Ga Traditional Council to dismiss the case.

Sources close to the Nungua Stool have hinted the ADM that due to the peaceful political atmosphere currently in the country the exiled chief is ready to return.

Nii Otto called on the government to be circumspect because besides the indiscriminate selling of the Nungua Stool lands to developers by Nii Akwetey and Numo Gborbu Wulomo, they are conspiring to collect a compensation of C20, 067,000,000 for the acquisition of a site for the National Olympic Sports Complex.
