Former Communications Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea says the comments by National Security Advisor, Brigadier General Nunoo Mensah constitute a national security threat.

The security capo at the commissioning of a nine-unit classroom block for O’reilly Secondary School over the weekend described the incessant strike actions in the country as “indiscipline”.

Brigadier General Nunoo Mensah appalled by the threats of strike by labour unions asked them to “get out of the country if the kitchen is too hot” for them.

But Akomea on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday described Nunoo Mensah’s comment on labour strike as “shameful, irritating and unfortunate”.

According to him, if all public and civil servants heed to the shameful advice of the Security Advisor and decide to move out of the country, “Ghana will fall”.

Nana Akomea noted that highly trained professionals like doctors and teachers will not go on strike if they don’t have genuine concerns.

“Who is Nunoo Mensah to tell a Ghanaian to get out of the country? Not even the president can order any Ghanaian to get out how much more an appointee” he bemoaned.

The NPP man said the labour unions threatening to go on strike have legitimate right because strikes are part of the tools enshrined in the labour law to demand better remunerations.

Akomea, who is also the former Member of Parliament for Okaikoi South said the “treasonable” comment by the Security Advisor must be condemned in no uncertain terms.

In a quick rebuttal, a communications team member of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kakra Essamuah said Brigadier General Nunoo Mensah only expressed his opinion.

He believes the comment of the Security Advisor has been misconstrued for political expediency.

Kakra Essamuah added that it is a fact that strikes are becoming rampant in the country despite the enormous sacrifice by government to resolve the situation.

He said assuming without admitting that the Mahama-led administration has brought hardship in the country, it is working hard to address it.

Kakra Essamuah urged Ghanaian workers to sacrifice for a Better Ghana for the future generations.
