Information reaching Daily Guide indicates that a nurse at the Asatre Health Centre in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region has been arrested by the police at Nkroful for allegedly discussing a rumour going round in the district that the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Emmanuel Kofi Armah Buah was going after somebody’s wife in one of the communities in the district.

A source at Ellembelle told Daily Guide that the nurse, Abeka Dawda, a former president of the Tertiary Education Students’ Confederacy (TESCON) of the New Patriotic Party at the Essiama Health Assistant School, was picked up by the police upon the instruction of the District Chief Executive, Daniel Eshun.

The source could not fathom why the nurse should be arrested since the rumour was being discussed by all sorts of people in the area and even some radio stations in Accra.

A police officer at Nkroful police station confirmed the arrest in an interview with Daily Guide. He said somewhere last week a gentleman whose name was only given as Paul went to the MP to report to him about a rumour people were discussing to the effect that he (the MP) was going after someone’s wife at Aiyinase in the district.

According to Paul, the MP told him to report to the police when he heard people discussing the issue. The policeman told Daily Guide that last Sunday Paul reported to the police that he had heard about three people, including the nurse, discussing the rumour.

“We asked Paul to lead us to go and pick the rumourmongers for questioning but he told us he will be back, but never came back,” the police officer noted.

He added that the police had even forgotten about the case until Daniel Eshun stormed the police station yesterday afternoon and ordered for the arrest of Abeka Dawda. As to whether the nurse would be granted bail or not, the policeman indicated that the Axim District Police Commander, who was in Accra, had to be briefed before any such action could be taken.
