Sekondi(W/R),Jan.22,GNA-The Western Regional Director of Health, Dr. Mrs Linda Vanotoo,has charged nurses and midwives in the country to show affection, care and good human relations to patients.
She said there had been instances where the public had criticized some nurses for poor communication and human relations.
Dr.Mrs Vanotoo said this in a speech read for her at the sixth Matriculation ceremony of the Sekondi Nursing and Midwifery College at Sekondi at the weekend.
She charged them to uphold the ideals of the nursing profession by showing love, kindness, comfort, patience at all times to their clients so as earn and maintain the trust people had in them.
The Regional Health Director admonished the fresh students to stick to their books to achieve their ambitions in life as well as serving humanity with quality service.
Dr. Vanotoo advised them to abide by school rules and regulations, obey authorities and dress decently at all times to serve as role models to the younger generations.
The Principal of the school, Mrs. Agatha Acuban, said the school received 936 applications out of which 170 were selected after vigorous interviews.
She said the school has a student population of 536 comprising 427 females and 108 males.
She, however, lamented about logistical constraints such as school bus, classrooms, hostel facilities, computers and internet access.
Mrs Acuban indicated that, the school is offering two programmes including Registered General Nursing and Registered General Midwifery.
She added that it had been accredited to award diploma certificates to grandaunts from the institution after a three-year study.
