Sekondi, Feb. 5, - GNA- Mrs Matilda A. Bansah, Principal of the Nurses and Midwifery Training College, Sekondi has observed that, the schools infrastructure were a death trap to the students.
She said the deteriorating nature of the buildings, which include classrooms; dormitories need urgent attention to prevent any disaster. Mrs Bansah said these at the matriculation of 196 nurses and midwives of the school over the weekend.
The matriculates, made up of 156 females and 40 males were led by Mrs Esther A. Pesseh to take the matriculation oath.
She said the trainees were being prepared to assist in the improvement of health care delivery throughout the country and all efforts must be made to make their education peaceful and incident free. Mrs Bansah therefore appealed to the Ghana health Service (GHS), the Ministry of Health (MOH), the Government, and other stakeholders to come to their aid as soon as possible.
Dr. Sylvester Anemana, Western Regional Director of Health Services said the frequent exodus of nurses to other countries had reduced from five to one per month.
He therefore urged health workers to work hard since car loans; annual awards schemes were all incentives meant to improve their lot. Dr. Linda Vanotoo, Deputy Director of Health in charge of public health reminded the matriculates that the nursing profession was not a moneymaking institution and those who joined with such intensions should change their attitude. She noted that nursing meant sacrifice and saving of lives. 05 Feb. 07
