Nyanor to be buried on June 26

Accra, June 7, GNA - The late Charles Omar Nyanor, Member of Parliament (MP) for Upper Denkyira would be buried at Dunkwa-On-Offin on Saturday, June 26 after wake keeping on Friday, June 25.

Nana Kojo Manu, Abusuapanin of the Dunkwa Ekoona Stool, announced this when he led a delegation from the bereaved family to officially inform the Government about the death and final funeral rites for the former Member of Parliament at the Castle, Osu in Accra on Monday. President John Agyekum Kufuor said the late Nyanor served his country and people well and deserved to be given a fitting burial. He said it was not only his relatives and people who had lost a great gem and leader but the entire nation. Nana Manu later presented customary drinks of two bottles of Schnapps to the Government.

Mr Nyanor, 69, died on Friday April 30 at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra after a short illness.

He was first elected MP for the area on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ticket in 1996 and re-elected in 2000 and served as the first Minister of Private Sector Development.

After a Cabinet reshuffle, he was assigned responsibilities in the Office of the President as a Minister of State and also the Chairman of the Divestiture Implementation Committee (DIC).
