Nzemas Holds 4th Kundum Festival In The Us

Ghana’s Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Ambassador Kabral Blay Amihere has advised Ghanaians to give their best in moral and financial support to strengthen education in Ghana.

“Education”, he has said, ‘is the only effective tool to achieve high levels of social-economic development in Ghana’.

Mr. Blay Amihere was speaking at the 4th Kundum Festival of the Nzemas in the US held in Atlanta.

The festival, themed “ Education: Our Legacy” attracted Nzemas form all over the US was also attended by some Ghanaian Associations of Atlanta, the Ga Adanbge and Asanteman groups, Nzemas of Ivory Coast and some African Americans. The Ghana Mission in Washington DC, was also represented by his Minister Counselor and Welfare, Mr. Joseph Ackon.

Ambassador Blay Amihere said the present generation of Nzemas should take inspiration from present and past leaders.

He accordingly paid tribute to Dr. Jonathan Stiles, an Nzema medical professor who devoted his entire life to international humanitarian goals, Professor Antou Amfo, a C19th philosopher who lectured extensively in Germany and Rev. Ralph David Abernathy, a civil rights leader whose hall of memory, the festival took place.

Ambassador Blay Amihere later presented $2000 to the Association on behalf of an Nzema businessman, Mr. Frank Buah. He also donated 100 copies of his autobiography, which was launched last year by President J. A. Kufuor for auction.

First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Freddie Blay, who was also a guest speaker, commended the Association for raising funds to support education of deprived Nzemas and wished them God’s blessing.

He also briefed the audience of the efforts made by Members of Parliament (MPs) to improve educational needs in their constituencies.
