O’Reilly SHS Stabbing: We want the accused sentenced to death – Family head

The family head of the final year student of O’Reilly Senior High School (SHS) who was stabbed to death, Nii Afotey Chiribour IV, on September 2, 2024, has said that he wants the accused person responsible for the death of his grandson sentenced to death.

Speaking in an interview with GhanaWeb TV’s SayItLoud, Nii Chiribour IV said that the accused person must also die the same way his grandson died.

He indicated that justice would not be served if the accused person, who has been named as Gideon, is only jailed by the court.

“We want the court to rule that he should also be sentenced to death. If you stab someone to death, you must also face the same fate, as even the Bible says so.

"The court should rule that he be sentenced to death. If this were the time of Rawlings, he would be executed. As for the teachers, like I said, our leader mentioned he would deal with them and ensure they are jailed. If he doesn’t, we will take the necessary action,” he said in Ga.

Meanwhile, the family of the accused person, Gideon, who court documents indicate was 18 years old, has begged for forgiveness for the actions of their son.

Speaking to GhanaWeb at the premises of the La District Court, after the court remanded the accused person to the custody of the police, one of the family members said that they did not know what came over their son.

The family of the accused were wailing and begging the family of the victim who were also present at the premises of the court.
