OKESS students exposed to incessant criminal attacks - Headmistress

The rate of students’ exposure to sporadic criminal attacks on the campus of Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School (OKESS) may witness an exponential rise if immediate assistance is not offered to salvage the situation, authorities have indicated.

Incidents of students being robbed at knife and gun points by armed men, ransacking of school properties and belongings of students by thieves from the outskirts of the school has been a major worry which is adversely affecting students and academic activities.

The Headmistress for the school Madam Mary Cromwell Owusu disclosed in an exclusive interview that academic affairs per the status quo is punctuated with fear and panic among students during night hours and was quick to disclose that the school currently lack the required financial strength to make possible the construction of a concrete wall that will bar criminals from invading their premises and safeguard students from night attacks.

Thieves and armed robbers she emphasized, severally break into dormitories and that all pleas made to the police and stakeholders to address the situation has not yielded the needed response.

Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School (OKESS) since its establishment in 1937, holding a track record as the first Senior High School to be established in the region with a current population of 2,600 students she disclosed is totally out of touch with security due to the absence of a fence wall.

Almost half of the school land the headmistress hinted has been encroached by private developers with connivance of some chiefs.

The headmistress who couldn’t hold back her lamentation in her statement during an interview with mynewsgh.com disclosed that OKESS as it stands now has no library, Science laboratory, I.C.T equipment to facilitate academic works.

“The only two existing buses of the school are currently in a rickety condition. There is insufficient water supply which has been a great worry to the school”, she revealed.

She has therefore made an appeal to government and the well to do to come to their aid so as to relieve them off the above mentioned burden of challenges.
