The Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen, and his nephew Kwame Baffoe (Abronye DC) are embarrassing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo by victimising members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) under the guise of retrieving stolen state cars, Koku Anyidoho, a deputy general secretary of the NDC, has said.
According to him, although the president has condemned the post-election violence, which has seen reported attacks on members of the NDC, the seizure of state property by NPP-affiliated youth, and, recently, the confiscation belonging vehicles of former government officials, Mr. Obiri Boahen and Abronye have defied the president’s comments.
Speaking in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom, on Accra100.5FM on Thursday, 23 February, Mr Anyidoho said: “Obiri Boahen and his nephew are just embarrassing the president with their “lawless” behaviour. They are just going about terrorising people in the name of seizing people’s personal cars.
“It is only Obiri Boahen who is walking around supporting all this behaviour. Any other person in the NPP is not in favour of what is going on, but Obiri Boahen is walking around supporting this lawless behaviour. He is just trying to catch the attention of the president for appointment that is all that he is doing.”
But responding to these comments on the same programme, Mr Obiri Boahen said it was unfortunate that Mr. Anyidoho was making these comments. He said such remarks by the former aide of late President Mills took the NDC back into opposition and he hasn’t learnt any lessons from that.
“Comments like these by Koku Anyidoho angered a lot of Ghanaians and that led them back into opposition. He is the main factor why the NDC went back to opposition,” he stated.
“We were in Ghana when Koku Anyidoho started insulting leading members of the NDC including Spio Garbrah, he also insulted Nana Addo, ex-President Kufuor, he described Dr Bawumia as a worthless person and so this is a person who should not be taken seriously.”
