An alleged driver of the VIP JEOUN company limited has accused some of his colleague drivers of allegedly having a hand in the death of another colleague in the tragic crash that occurred near Obretema, close to Suhum, in Ghana’s Eastern Region.
Seven people, including both drivers, died, while 31 others sustained injuries in a tragic accident involving a VIP bus and a fuel tanker.
The crash occurred in the early hours of Saturday, September 21, 2024.
According to a statement from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the fatal collision took place at 4:38 a.m. when the fuel tanker, registered GE-9644-21, suffered a tyre burst, causing it to swerve into the opposite lane and collide head-on with a VIP bus, registered GR-7632-24. The crash resulted in both vehicles overturning, trapping passengers inside.
The Suhum Fire Service team, led by ADO I Akonnor Opare Ohene Daniel, responded promptly and arrived at the scene at 4:53 a.m. and, with additional support from the Kyebi Fire Station, extricated the bodies of the deceased from the mangled bus.
But a man who describes himself as a VIP bus driver in a video on social media believes some colleagues of his, spiritually masterminded the accident out of jealousy.
"We are all VIP drivers; what at all do we want in this world? This type of bus is one of only two among our fleet of buses. Why should anybody be jealous? Look at the state in which the bus is now; why do you kill your brother? To what end? VIP drivers, have you seen what you have caused? We will not blame the tanker driver; [may the Lord keep his soul]. I blame we, the VIP drivers.
"Someone has bought a bus for your colleague to work with, and you are jealous over that? He's now dead and gone; what have you gained by killing him? The bus you want to drive is now damaged beyond repairs. What wrong has Weezy done to anyone to deserve this? This is a brand new bus; it's not home-used. You see what you've done to the bus?" he asked?.
