Oda Constituency NPP holds congress

Akim Akroso (E/R), Sept. 27, GNA - The Akim Oda Constituency of the National Patriotic Party (NPP) on Monday, elected a nine-member executive at its congress at Akim Akroso in the Birim South District. In a keenly contested and tension packed election, the incumbent chairman, Mr Rockson A. K. Ofori, polled 59 votes to beat his two other contestants, Mr Yaw Gyamera Beeko who got 45 votes with Mr Emmanuel Saka, 11.

The post of First Vice Chairman went to Mr Amoah Sakyi, Second Vice Chairman, Mr Emmanuel Kennedy Oteng, Secretary, Alhaji Ismaela Ibrahim, Assistant Secretary, Mr Sintim Osman and Organizer, Mr Yaw Antwi-Boasiako.

Other officers elected were Women's Organizer, Ms Victoria Adu, Youth Organiser, Mr Kwadwo Amparbeng and Treasurer, Ms Esi Oforiwaa. In an address, the Eastern Regional Chairman of the NPP, Nana Kofi Adi Ankamah, reminded the executives that they were the basic units of the party saying: "The success or failure of the party in the area rests on your shoulders".

He tasked them to be able to identify names of political opponents in the voters register and mount an effective house-to-house campaign to convince them to join the party. Nana Ankamah advised them to hold meetings, at least, once in a month to plan strategies towards a landslide victory in the 2008 election.

The Birim South District Chief Executive, Mr Frank Kwame Busumtwi, thanked the delegates for the mature manner in which they went about the election, saying this proved that democracy was at work. He urged the executives to take steps to reconcile all factions in the party and to bring on board all those who contested elections but lost.

The Chairman, Mr Ofori on behalf of the executive, thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in them and called for concerted efforts from all to help the party retain the constituency seat in the next general election.
