Some residents of Akyem Oda in the Eastern Region have taken to the streets to protest what they say is government's failure to release fund for rehabilitation works to begin the jubilee bridge on the Accra-Oda road.
Led by the Akyem Oda Concerned Citizens Association (AKOCCA), the residents say the bridge is in a deplorable state and that it was about time government moved swiftly to deal with the situation.
According to residents the bridge has become weak and consistently traps vehicles and other road users.
Drivers say their vehicles get trapped in large craters that have developed on the bridge.
In June this year, a tipper truck with registration number GT-7528-15 fell off the edge of the bridge.
That incident prompted a similar protest by citizens led by AKOCCA.
Spokesperson of AKOCCA, Randy Kwesi Azor stated that, "we decided to demonstrate today to tell the authorities that the bridge is not good, it is dilapidated and they have to come and fix it. Our farmers from the villages have been complaining about the bridge so we decided to demonstrate".
