Accra, Feb 20, GNA - The Odododiodioo constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has congratulated Nii Armah Ashietey on his appointment as the Greater Accra Regional Minister. Speaking to newsmen in Accra on Wednesday Mr. Daniel Nii Okai, the Constituency Chairman flanked by Mr. Festus C Bekoe and Mr. Joseph Otoo, Constituency Vice Chairman and Secretary respectively, expressed the hope that with his experience as a former Trade Unionist and Chief Executive for the Tema Municipality, the Regional Minister would administer the region to the admiration of all.
Mr. Okai said that communities in the region were confronted with problems including sanitation and congestion and expressed the hope that with the co-operation of the people Nii Armah Ashietey, who is also the Member of Parliament for Korley Klottey, the challenges would be "a thing of the past". He said Accra and surrounding areas, especially the business and commercial centres, had been engulfed with heaps of refuse and called for efforts to clean up the metropolis to befit its status as the national capital to attract tourists and investors.
Mr. Okai recalled the statement by the minister during his vetting that he would resign his post under undue pressure and pleaded with the people and the authorities to give the minister "a free hand" to confront the task ahead. Nii Armah Ashietey is a lawyer.
