Offin River disaster: MP donates two modern canoes to Amaada community

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (NPP) for Atwima Mponua Constituency in the Ashanti Region Hon. Isaac Kwame Asiamah has presented two modern canoes worth GHC 10,000 to the people of Amaadaa in the Atwima Mponua district of the Ashanti region to use them for their farming activities and crossing the Offin River.

The presentation of the canoes was in the fulfillment of the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) and Atwima Mponua District Assembly’s promise made when the Ashanti regional Minister Hon. Simon Osei Mensah and District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atwima Mponua District Assembly Hon. Williams Drako visited them when their dilapidated canoe that capsized some weeks ago on the Offin River.

It will be recalled that on Saturday October 17, 2017, thirteen farmers with their goods crossing the river Offin, with a dilapidated canoe capsized and only six were alive.

In presenting the canoes to the people of Amaadaa, the DCE of Atwima Mponua District Assembly Hon. Williams Darko said “the MP, the DCE and Regional Minister have fulfilled their promise made when disaster struck Amaadaa people some weeks ago. This shows that the Nana Addo led government will never forsake his people and will deliver as he promises.”

“The people think the canoes will be ready even after Christmas but we have been surprise that they have come before the Christmas, though the chief requested for one canoe, now we have presented to two, and another one will soon follow to ease your difficult ways of crossing the Offin river,” he added.

Receiving the canoes on behalf of the people, the Odikro of Amaada, Opanin Oteng Mensah thanked the MP, Regional Minister and the Assembly for the gesture and assured them of regular maintenance and effective utilization of the canoes.
