The future of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Offinso in the Ashanti Region, Victor Amponsah, is hanging in the balance, credible reports reaching DAILY GUDE indicate.

Reports filtering in from Offinso indicate that it would take divine intervention for the MCE, who is now in the USA for his personal ambitions, to be reinstated to his position.

This follows his alleged gross disrespect to the Ashanti Regional, Minister Kofi Poku Manu, by defying his caution not to travel to the USA.

Sources at the Offinso Municipal Assembly disclosed to the paper that the Municipal Coordinating Director of the area, Alhaji Adam Baba, has already been appointed as the new MCE by the regional minister.

The paper gathered that Hon. Amponsah left the country on Friday for the United States for his personal dealings without the approval of his superiors in the region.

So far, there are conflicting reports as to what really occurred prior to Hon. Amponsah’s departure from the country to the USA, leaving room for people to speculate.

Sources at the MCE’s office alleged that Hon. Amponsah, for reasons best known to him, had decided to leave office by relocating to the USA where he could have his peace.

Other staffers in the MCE’s office also speculated that the MCE was pursuing a Masters in Business Administration at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi.

According to them, the MCE was in the USA with his course mates on a two-week education tour and would return to the country in a fortnight’s time to continue with his work.

The sources, who pleaded anonymity, said prior to his departure from the country, Amponsah sought permission through a written letter to the Ashanti Regional Minister.

They said that information reaching them indicated that Kofi Poku Manu, upon receipt of the letter, categorically told the MCE that he could not be granted permission to travel.

Hon. Amponsah, they indicated, defied the Minister’s stern warning and went ahead to display gross disrespect to Hon. Kofi Poku Manu by traveling to the USA.

Peeved about the inactions of the Offinso MCE, Mr Poku Manu reportedly stormed Offinso on Tuesday morning and asked the Coordinating Director of the area, Alhaji Adam Baba, to take over as the new MCE after a lengthy closed-door meeting in the MCE’s office.
