Offinso (Ash), April 6, GNA - Nana Wiafe Akenten III, Offinsohene, has called for the protection of rivers, streams and water bodies and refrain from the indiscriminate dumping of refuse and defecating at open spaces.

He observed that most of the environmental problems they faced were of their own making and called for a change of attitude. Nana Wiafe Akenten was addressing the people of Amoawi, Amoawi Zongo and Adiembra after leading them to undertake a clean-up exercise in these communities on Wednesday.

The Offinsohene asked his people to devote part of their time to the development of their areas since it was the only way through which the communities can develop.

He appealed to his people who have not yet registered with the District Mutual Insurance Scheme to do so that they can benefit from it when they fall sick.

Nana Duodu Frimpong III, chief of Amoawi, stated that it was difficult raising funds for development in the communities due to the unemployment situation. He appealed for the provision of potable water for the communities since they were now unable to draw water from the pipes while the streams had been polluted.

Nana Osei Kusi-Appiah, chief of Adiembra, asked the Offinsohene to allocate land for the construction of places of convenience and refuse dumps since areas earmarked for these facilities have been taken up by the proposed polytechnic land.

Nana Wiafe Akenten, who later interacted with the basic school pupils in the communities, asked them to study hard and be disciplined since they were the future leaders of this country.
