Ofori Panin Secondary hooked to Internet

Ofori Panin Secondary School at Kukurantumi has became the first educational institution in the Eastern region to be hooked to the Internet.

This was made possible through the provision of 53 computers by an Accra-based development organisation, socio-economic Development Centre, and Afko Imex, local representatives of Samsung Industries.

Mr Kwame Amo-Dako, the headmaster said that it has been the policy of the school to make all graduating students computer literate. This, he said, would help both teachers and students to have easy access to global information to improve on the already impressive record of the school.

Graduating students are made to sit for a paper in computer studies for which a certificate is awarded by the school. Mr Amo-Dako, who is also president of the Ghana National Association of Teachers, said because of poor reception on the New Tafo telephone exchange, it had not been possible to fully utilise the centre.

He, however, gave the assurance that efforts are being made by socio-economic Development Centre to supply it with a micro beam. To ensure the sustainability of the facility, he said eight teachers have been trained to man the centre.
