As the battle line for who represents the Tema West constituency in the Greater Accra region is drawn, the constituents say, they are sick and tired of the belligerent lawyer Irene Naa Torshie-Addo’s leadership style and have fallen in love with the aspiring legislator Samuel Ofosu Ampofo’s aura of respect and humility.
The local government minister’s ‘’fever’’ is sending shivers down the spine of the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member Of Parliament (MP) Lawyer Irene Naa Torshie-Addo, as both the young and old, weak and strong, educated and un-educated, members of the opposition NPP, CPP, PNC floating voters and the chiefs have fallen in ‘’love’’ with the vision and leadership qualities of the former two-time member of parliament for the Fanteakwa constituency in the Eastern region.
A staunch NPP member in the constituency and an organizer in one of the wards, who pleaded for anonymity said, ‘’with the humility and respect the minister exhumes, I am afraid to say this, I see Naa Torshie falling like Nebuchadnezzar.’’ She is too arrogant and self centered.’’
According to sources in the Tema West constituency, the NPP M.p for the area shot herself in the foot a long time ago, and knows very well that she can’t win the 2012 elections. The source explained that, Naa Torshie does not respect part structures neighther does she value the former NPP for the area and one time majority leader Abraham Osei Aidoo and other party stalwarts in the area.
Kwame Dankwa of community five exclaimed that ‘’ Naa Torshie and her NPP have failed us, now is the time to support Hon. Ampofo and the NDC in the 2012 elections.
Even before becoming the Member of Parliament for the area, the aspiring NDC candidate has started organizing clean up exercises in the communities, fixing street lights at vantage points and helping youth groups with alternative livelihood programs livelihood opportunities. ‘’This is the man we have been looking for to lead us, and I thank God he is on the move.’’ Henry Asamoah of community 2 said.
During the Yule-tide celebrations, Mr. Ofosu Ampofo took it upon himself as part of his 21st century campaign strategy to visit every nook and cranny of the constituency, visiting every household irrespective of the party they belong celebrating with them and putting a ‘’smile on their faces.’’
‘’I thought light and darkness don’t meet, but you have defied the odds to visit even your opponents, I am humbled. My family and I will not let you down; we will do well to reciprocate this gesture when the time comes. God bless you for remembering us during this season.’’ A leading member of NPP in community 5 emphasized.
‘’I am not your M.P yet but what needs to be done must be done. I am not a politician who would wait for election time before I come around. There are a lot of developmental projects that we need to initiate, and I promise not to take your votes for granted but will work with you in spite of your political inclination to address the concerns in the area.’’ Ampofo stated.
The incumbent minister for Local Government and Rural Development, admonished the people to put aside their political colors and join him develop the area which has been neglected by the current NPP M.P lawyer Irene Naa Torshie-Addo.
The developmental and organizational acumen of the aspiring NDC M.P in the area is spreading like bush fire with no amount of water to quench it.
Wherever Ofosu Ampofo went, the people followed. ‘’The president Mills led government is doing a lot, and the need for ‘’you’’ to complement his efforts by voting the NDC M.P Za and the president Zu in the 2012 elections.
‘’I urge you all to be responsible and respect the lay down rules. Do not be hoodwinked into believing that elections are warned through violence. No! Let us all work together to ensure a peaceful election in 2012.
