BARELY FOUR days after the climax of the Oguaa Fetu Afahye festival which attracted thousands of people across the globe including President Mills, residents in the area have begun castigating him and his National Democratic Congress (NDC) government...
...for doing nothing to ensure the development of Cape Coast and the Central region at large.
They said the President should be spearheading development of the central region since he is from the area but he has rather deserted the region and left it to wallow in poverty.
Although President Mills, promised residents in his speech at the festival last Saturday that they will soon receive their share of infrastructural development, they are nevertheless unhappy with him because they have not seen any physical development in the area in the two and a half years that the NDC has been in office.
This accusation has prompted the Central Regional Coordinating Council (CRCC) to issue a press release to set the record straight.
The release issued and signed by the Public Relations Officer of CRCC, Ike Afenyi Donkor on behalf of Central Regional Minister, Ama Benyiwa Doe said President Mills is aware and concerned about two major projects, the Cape Coast Sports Stadium and the Kotokuraba Market, promising to begin them very soon.
The regional minister added that government had secured $1,500.00 for the construction of a clinical teaching center for the medical school at University of Cape Coast with an additional $5,200.00 for the construction of a medical students’ hostel and diagnostic center.
Mrs. Doe revealed that a teachers’ bungalow, clinic and nurses’ quarters as well as a community center worth GH¢786,848 have been constructed while a contract of GH¢1.2 million has also been awarded for the construction of the Black History Museum in Cape Coast.
In the educational sector, the statement said President Mills has provided numerous classroom blocks, dormitories, bunk beds and mono desks to senior high schools such as the Ghana National College, Academy of Christ the King, Holy Child School, University Practice Senior High School, Aggrey Memorial Zion Secondary and St. Augustine’s College, all in Cape Coast.
With regards to the roads sector, the minister said the Mills government had constructed roads in areas such as Ola, Adisadel and Amoahkofoa-Aboom through to Abura and constructed two steel bridges linking residents of the Kwaprow and Ankaful communities.
Mrs. Doe added that the NDC government had also completed the construction of a health post facility at Akotokyir while Cape Coast has been provided with a science resource center to train junior high school students in the area of science.
The statement said all projects embarked upon by government will be captured on tape and shown to the people of Cape Coast and the region so they can see things for themselves.
She consequently advised all cape coasters to find out which developmental projects had been completed and those yet to be completed and stop the unnecessary castigations and insults being leveled against her and the president.
