The General Secretary of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), Mahama Haruna has called on President Kufuor not to retain Elizabeth Ohene as Minister in charge of Tertiary Education because she is lazy, incompetent and insensitive.
Describing the minister as ?undiplomatic, insensitive, incompetent and uncommitted?, Mr. Haruna said the minister is much interested in attending funerals and public gathering at the expense of her official duties.
Speaking in an interview with the ?Enquirer? in Tamale, Mr. Haruna emphasised that the minister since her appointment has never showed interest in championing the cause of tertiary students neither is she committed to resolving numerous problems confronting tertiary institutions in the country.
?I in particular as students leader will want to see the President dismissing Elizabeth outright because she is incompetent, selfish and uncommitted to championing the cause of tertiary education.
We the student?s leadership will take whatever means or resist any attempt by the President to retain Elizabeth.
We are advocating for a level-headed person who is students friendly, easy to approach and diplomatic to work?he said.
The General Secretary also accused the minister for disregarding students and frequently turning down their invitation to participate in the student programmes that seek to redress issues facing tertiary students in general.
?Several invitations extended to the minister to attend our programmes are always turned down or she sends a delegate. The leadership is peeved with the minister in this regard?, he stated.
According to him, the minister has never taken the trouble to explain the cause of her inability to attend any of their programmes adding that this explains how incompetent and unconcerned she is to her ministry and needs to be replaced.
NUGS as a matter of urgency is calling for the immediate removal of Elizabeth Ohene and replace her with someone who would be more accommodative, sensitive and available so that the many challenges confronting the Tertiary Education would be addressed.
