A youth group known as Sons And Daughters of Okuapeman in Akropong in the Eastern Region on Tuesday, 17 July marched through the principal streets of the town to register their displeasure against the continuous manning of the Okuapemhene’s palace by National Security personnel.

According to the group, the complete takeover of the Okuapemhene’s palace by security personnel is hindering the development and progress of the area.

Spokesperson for the group, Seth Anthony Marfo told the media that: “The Okuapem Traditional Council originally sent a committee to see to the resolution of the purported chieftaincy dispute; the activities, as we hear were met with anonymous calls from the National Security operatives. They gave up the assignment for personal security and safety reasons.”

The group has called on President Nana Akufo-Addo, to intervene.

Mr. Marfo said: “Mr. President, please save the soul of Okuapeman from further desecration and defilement”

The angry youth said the people of Okuapeman were not at all happy with the situation.

“Our people are deeply aggrieved and angered with the situation; worse of it all, at the dawn of the reign, our people spotted people from the Flagstaff House masterminding the operation. To add insult to injury, a son of Akropong at the seat of government was heavily involved.

“Mr. President, Okuapeman deserves better and the longer the palace remains closed, the worse the discipline of Akuapem gets”, Mr. Marfo said.

The National Security operatives were deployed to the palace eight months ago to prevent two royal factions from installing two separate chiefs to fill the vacant Okuapeman stool.
