Deputy communications director for the New Patriotic Party, Perry Okudzeto has described President John Dramani Mahama’s campaign strategy as “irresponsible” and unbefitting of a man who prides himself in integrity.
Okudzeto was responding to comments the president made at a rally at the Trade Fair Centre in Accra Monday.
The rally was part of the launch of the 60/40 project by the Greater Accra Regional Branch of the NDC ahead of the 2016 elections.
Mahama at the rally singled out NPP running mate, Mahamudu Bawumia, saying he is not qualified to sing along when others are calling him and the NDC government incompetent.
"...Did you hear Bawumia say incompetent Mahama? You’ve never held any responsibility near the presidency before; you don’t know what it is like to be President.
"I’ll take that from Kufuor or from Rawlings because they’ve been there before. All of you guys [NPP critics] have never ever come near the presidency. [Do] you know what it takes to be a President? And you stand and say ‘incompetent Mahama administration.
The President also said at the gathering in Accra, “I have been the most insulted, and I think my government has been the most insulted in the history of this county
He added: “And every day when you listen to the radio, personal invective and insults are rained on my person, but like I said, those things are not going to distract me.
But Okudzeto in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM said the President and his campaign team have chosen a rude path for their campaign.
“I must say the President’s utterances have given him away.If you had followed his campaign in Bolgatanga through the Northern region and today, you would realise he was talking tribal politics up north and now this,” the deputy communications director said.
Okudzeto stressed “he failed woefully in the governance process...the Ghanaian people are the ones who have judged the president as incompetent not Bawumia.”
He added, "I think that President Mahama takes a break, look back seven years before he begins to say unfortunate things.”
