Old Abuscodians to the Rescue

Old students of Abuakua State College have decided to put up eight master bungalows to be attached the eight houses at the College at Kyebi.

The project, which is estimated to cost 480 million cedis, is to be built by old students in four regional branches, Accra, Koforidua, Tema and Kumasi. According to the President of the Old Abuscodian Association, Mr. Akenten Appiah Menka, the National Executive of the association has embarked on a giant development programme to revamp the school to bring it back to its former glory. The masters' bungalow is the initial stage of the association's commitment to the development of the school.

He disclosed that the Okyehene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin himself, an old boy, will soon launch an Abuakua State College Endowment Fund.

On his first visit to the school as Okyehene, he expressed displeasure at the poor sanitation and lack of culture of maintenance by the school authorities and promised to do everything in his power to improve the conditions.

As part of the plan to improve the academic performance of ABUSCO, a number of past students have volunteered to offer free tutorials to the students every week. Mr. Kofi Darko-Asante, a lawyer and a retired diplomat is to offer lectures in English language; Dr. Kwaku Safo, an Engineer is to teach science and mathematics, Rev. Lt. Col. (Rtd) Kwasi Oteng Ag. Director Church Life and Nurture, Presbyterian Headquarters and Rev. Rose Akua Ampofo, Director Presbyterian Women's Centre Abokobi will teach religious studies and. Dr. Nana Yaw Opoku Ahwene Danquah Director at C.S.I.R. Kumasi and Dr. Felix Ofori Appiah Senior lecturer UST, Kumasi have both decided to teach biology and related science subjects.

The Deputy Managing Director of Ghana Post, Mr. Francis Ernest Adu Boateng, is offering his services in accounting subjects and mathematics while Mr. Offei-Koram, an Engineering Consultant, will take some classes in science subjects.

Mr. V.O.D. Twum Barima, a former Registrar of KUST and a retired diplomat and Professor S.K.B. Asante, a retired diplomat of African Union Secretariat will lead a team to give monthly alumina lectures at the school

Mr. Appiah-Menka has charged Wing Commander (Rtd) Addo Charles, an Estate Developer, to co-ordinate all activities in relation to the launching of the Endowment Fund and to organise a fitting national reception to honour all Abuscodians who have been appointed ministers of state, members of the Council of State, chief executives and members of district assemblies. Meanwhile Mr. Eric Mintah and Mr. Osei Kwabena are to co-ordinate the activities of Old Abuscodian Association in Continental America, while Mr. Kwame Antwi Dakwa (Sango) and Mr. Aikins Okwaning (Kwadwo Okra) will concentrate on Great Britain and Ireland.
