Omanhene Pozoh laid foundation for hiplife music - Barima Sydney

The success story of hiplife music in Ghana cannot be complete without mention of the contribution of Omanhene Pozo, as he’s one of the pioneers who laid the foundation for that genre,” hiplife musician, Barima Sidney has said.

According to him, Omanhene Pozo was the only musician who did collaborations with veteran artistes like Awurama Badu, Alhaji Frimpong and C.K Man.

He noted that the defunct ‘Nananom’ group recently recorded new songs which was to be released soon to commemorate their 20 years anniversary since its inception in 1996.

Barima Sidney disclosed that due to the 2016 general elections, the group decided to release their new songs and video in 2017.

“We formed Nananom in 1996 and 2016 is exactly 20years and we wanted to commemorate the celebration with a release of the new song in 2017.”

According to the ‘Scent ooo’ hit singer, his former group member, Omanhene Pozo was recovering after he was discharged but unfortunately he was hit by the bad news of his death last Wednesday.

“Few months ago we all heard he (Omanhene Pozo) wasn’t feeling well. He had his surgery at the 37 Military Hospital which he was recovering after he was discharged until some few days ago he had another attack and was rushed to the hospital on Friday but unfortunately we heard the bad news that he is dead.

“Initially many reported that he had a brain tumour but that wasn’t the actual issue. According to the doctor it’s an infections in the brain but bot a brain tumour and was given medications. Though he was down with stroke on one side of his body he was looking normal because of the physiotherapy he was going through.”

The former vibrant ‘Nananom’ group was led by the rap Ninja, Barima Sidney. Other members of the group include Omanhene Pozo and Jyoti Chandler (Ohemaa).

Their debut album, “Nana Kasa” was a massive hit and after Pozoh left the group, they released “Nana-nono” which also did well.

Some of their songs were Wokyere wo ho, Ewuradwoa, Ofie ne fie, Wo ne hwan, Kwame Nkrumah hye Ghana, Everything is gonna be right, Washeda anaa, Agoo, etc. They also featured on Agoro on Rockstone’s Makaa maka album (1997).
