Omanhene lauds government education policy

Wassa-Akropong (W/R), Oct 16, GNA - Kasapreko Kwame Bassanyin III, Omanhene of Wassa Amenfi, has lauded Government's efforts at improving education in the country and reaffirmed the traditional council's support towards its success.

He expressed the belief that the ongoing programmes to provide a model secondary school in each district, the provision of buses to educational institutions, as well as the introduction of the computerised selection system would contribute immensely to the improvement of the education sector.

Kasapreko Bassanyin made these remarks when Mr Michael Wiafe, winner of this year's national best teacher award in the second cycle institutions science category, called on him at the weekend. The Omanhene congratulated Mr Wiafe, who teaches at the Amanfiman Secondary School, for bringing honour to himself, the School and the traditional area.

He advised other teachers to take a cue from Mr Wiafe's hard work and determination to succeed in spite of problems facing staff of the school.

Nana Obanyin Kwame II, Tufohene of the traditional area, appealed to members of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), currently on strike to go back to the classroom. He said their action has the potential to destroy the future of the students, especially those in the final year. Reverend Father Gregory Ackron, Assistant Headmaster of Amanfiman Secondary School, urged parents to assist their wards in the choice of schools under the computerised selection system. Mr Wiafe later told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that he won the national award through hard work and dedication.
