One Man "Kume Preko"

Wed, 29 Jan 2003 Source: Insight

A one man demonstration against the recent fuel price increases will take place in Accra next Friday. The sole organizer, Agya Abiw of Moree in the Central Region has refused to disclose the route of his demonstration. He told ''THE Insight'' that he was ready to comply with all legal requirements for a demonstration, including informing the police five days ahead of the demonstration.

A visibly angry Abiw said the petrol price increases are unjustifiable and ought to be resisted by the masses.

''I do not belong to any political party. I am a citizen of Ghana who cares about the plight of the unprivileged Ghanaian''.

''I am ready to do all it takes to compel the government to listen to the voice of reason and withdraw these increases'', he noted. Mr Abiw dismissed claims that the increase in the price of petroleum products is meant to deal with the TOR debt.

''That is a lie. The government is at its wits end and is only raising revenue through the back door. No matter what happens, rain or shine, I will demonstrate on Friday'', he said.
