A fire outbreak at an uncompleted fuel station near the Babasso cemetery in Ejura in the Ashanti Region has claimed the life of a 25-year-old man, identified as Ali Abubakari.

In a press release dated July 23, 2025, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) confirmed that the incident occurred on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.

According to the Service, it received a distress call at around 12:25 pm about a fire at block number E 6264, a location known for retailing petrol in gallons.

A fire crew led by Station Officer 1, Daniels Moah, was dispatched to the scene and arrived within six minutes.

Upon arrival, the structure used for storing gallons of petrol and bags of beans was already engulfed in flames.

The GNFS reported that while the fire partially destroyed the building, firefighters were able to salvage six out of twelve bags of beans stored at the site.

The blaze was brought under control within ten minutes and fully extinguished by 12:55 pm.

The charred remains of the deceased have been recovered and handed over to officers from the Ejura Police Command for further investigation.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased and reaffirm our commitment to protecting lives and property through timely and professional emergency response,” the statement said.

The GNFS has commenced a formal investigation to ascertain the cause of the fire and has urged the public to desist from storing or dispensing petroleum products in unauthorised and unsafe facilities.
