One dead in renewed violent clashes at Ahwiaa

One person was butchered to death while several others received cutlass wounds in a renewed violent clashes among the youth at Ahwiaa in the Kwabre East district on Monday afternoon.

The deceased, identified only as Musah and believed to be in his 20’s was said to have been a leader of one of the gangs, which had been embroiled in violent clashes in the community in recent times.

Several others including teachers, are said to have received brutal cutlass wounds and have been admitted in hospitals for treatment.

A combined team of military and police have been deployed to maintain law and order in the area.

At the time of filing this report from the town, all educational institutions had been closed down while all shops and businesses have also been closed.

Ahwiaa, an indigenous art and craft community has in recent weeks, been embroiled in violent gang clashes among the youth.

Monday’s clashes was said to have been triggered by a misunderstanding between two rival gangs.
