Eyewitnesses say tensions flared when soldiers stopped the funeral procession
One person has reportedly died and three others were injured following a violent confrontation between military personnel and a group of mourners at Nyinahin in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.
According to a post shared on social media by EDHUB, the incident occurred in the early hours of April 24, 2025, as mourners were making their way to a cemetery.
Eyewitnesses say tensions flared when soldiers stopped the funeral procession and confronted a mourner for wearing a camouflage outfit.
The military personnel reportedly demanded that the individual remove the clothing immediately.
The mourner complied by removing the top but refused to take off the trousers, stating that doing so would leave him completely naked.
The disagreement escalated into a physical altercation, during which gunshots were fired.
The individual was allegedly shot in the head, while three others sustained injuries believed to be from stray bullets and stones thrown during the chaos.
According to the report, the injured were rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for medical treatment.
In a video accompanying the post, a young man was seen lying lifeless with blood oozing from his head, surrounded by a crowd, some of whom were visibly distraught and crying.
Some young men were later seen throwing stones in a direction believed to be where the military personnel were positioned, while loud gunshots could be heard in the background.
