The entire population of over a 100,000 persons have to be attended to by just one medical doctor in the entire Krachie East District of the Volta Region.
Dr. Abigail Amenu the Medical Director, Dambai Health Center is the only medical doctor at the place serving the entire population.
Dr. Amenu told Ghanaweb in an interview that the situation has posed a great challenge to the effective dispensation of her duties as very few patients are catered for out of the large number that register on a daily basis.
“I am the only medical doctor currently at this facility serving the whole district it is stressful but that is my job”, she said.
Dr. Abigail Amenu revealed some of the challenges facing the facility including inadequate beds to house patients, absence of a theatre and oxygen for emergency cases.
“The facility has only twelve beds which serves males, females and children at the same. The maternity ward also has three beds. We don’t have theatre here so at times with surgical cases we refer the patients to either Worawora Government Hospital or Kete-Krachi Government Hospital,” Dr.Amenu disclosed.
The Health Centre is also bedeviled with transportation problems as all four vehicles of the facility including an ambulance are all defective.
Dr. Abigail Amenu also appealed for support from the Ministry of Health, NGOs and individuals to come to the aide of the facility to help them provide quality health delivery for its clients.
Apart from these problems confronting the Dambai Health Centre, the road leading to the facility is also in a deplorable state and needs urgent attention.
