One person has been reported dead following a deadly clash between workers at the Akim Oda Timber Market and staff of the Forestry Commission.
As reported by citinewsroom.com, the incident, which happened at Akim Oda, located in the Birim Central Municipality of the Eastern Region, resulted in the death of one unidentified person, further heightening the unrest in the area.
In response to the situation, staff members of the Akim Oda Forestry Commission have vacated their offices due to the massing up of aggrieved timber market workers.
The exact cause of the clash remains unclear, but personnel from the Akim Oda Divisional Police Command have been deployed to the area to restore calm and manage the situation.
This follows years of attempts by government to relocate the occupants of the Akim Oda Timber Market to an industrial village.
The market, situated on government land managed by the railway department, has been occupied by various artisan groups and wood sellers, affecting the area's aesthetics.
