The Association of Wives of Security officers from agencies in the Central Region have come together to form one umbrella body to provide a platform to support their husbands to discharge their duties effectively.
They comprise Police Wives Association (POLWA), Prison Officers Wives Association (PROWA) and Fire Officers Wives Association (FOWA).
The wives of Immigration Service Officers Association were absent.
A seven-member interim executive committee was appointed to decide a common name for the Association.
The Central Regional Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service, Assistant Chief Fire Officer John Amponsah-Tetteh, said it was imperative that the associations have a common voice to champion their cause.
This is because the work of security officers was risky, dangerous and hazardous and sometimes with emotional effects and therefore needed wives who would support them.
Mrs. Cecilia Yankey, a senior prison officer’s wife, said the bedrock of every association is love, peace and unity.
She urged members to endeavour to contribute financially to sustain the Association because many associations had folded up due to the unwillingness of members to contribute to the funding of their activities.**
