The Dean of the Law faculty of GIMPA, Lawyer Kofi Abotsi says that Ghana stands for nothing but the OneGhana Movement is designed to drive a new agenda for Ghana.

According to the dean, there is a lot that is not working for Ghana because indiscipline has been a characteristic feature of Ghanaians for a while now yet we seem to depend too much on government to correct or rectify the ills of our society.

“Unfortunately governments have been part of the problems over the years. So the OneGhana Movement represents the citizenship initiative designed to bring citizens on board and to drive the agenda for the new Ghana. The ministers are citizens the president is a citizen everybody in this country who is a citizen has an obligation and a responsibility” he added.

Lawyer Abotsi indicated that for charge of attitude to happen and the drive for the new agenda of Ghana to sail smoothly, leaders should set exemplary life for the others to follow.

“If you are a leader you are supposed to demonstrate by exemplary behavior that this is the way to go for people to follow you. When people are down and they watch those up, they invariably turn to follow those up either for good or for evil” he said.

In an interview with GhanaWeb, the renowned lawyer said that the essence of the 1992 constitution has been completely lost on us.

He said that the 1992 constitution encourages different parties to create a market place of ideas but not to divide us politically.

He added, the core policies and blue prints elaborated by the1992 constitution has been ignored by successive governments since 1992; hence OneGhana Movement will bring a discussion to the zones of the blue print.

“OneGhana Movement hopefully should articulate these concerns and reorient the political parties, policy community, and academia to ensure that we go back to the fundamentals. And the fundamentals are Ghana must stand for something but at the moment we stand for nothing. Different parties stand for different things and we experiment it every 4 years just to start all over again” he noted.

The OneGhana Movement will officially launch the OneGhana Movement & Justice for June 3 Victims tomorrow at the British Council at 4:00 PM.

The Keynote speaker for the program is Rev. Dr. Joyce Aryee and chaired by Justice Jones Dotse.
