Mr. Dan Lartey, the leader of the Great Consolidated People's Party (GCPP), has stated that the 2004 presidential elections is one for the Convention People's Party (CPP).

He said plans are far advanced for all members of CPP, GCPP, PNC and NRP to unite and wrest power from the NPP government in 2004.

At a brainstorming conference held in Kumasi last Friday, to commemorate the 53rd anniversary of the positive action declared on the 8th of January 1950 by Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Dan Lartey said it is regrettable that after rallying behind NPP to win the second round of the presidential election, NPP has "positively made Ghanaians hungry."

He noted that it will take only the CPP with the idea of domestication to move Ghana forward as a nation.

He said time has come for all members of the Nkrumahist tradition to put the past behind them and renew their pledges to the CPP and remain focused in their bid to rejuvenate its structures to fight and win he next elections.

Earlier in a welcome address, Comrade Sam K. Riley-Poku described the CPP as the only party that supported Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in attaining the leading role he played to lift the image of Ghana as a beckon of light to the follow men on the continent.

Mr. Riley-Poku pointed out that self-governance currently being enjoyed by the NPP government is the greatest achievement of the CPP in their struggle for independence.

He further stated that the CPP, the GCPP, the PNC and the NRP belong to the Nkrumahist fold, adding that the fragmentation which has sprung up within the Nkrumahist family was precipitated by the (P) NDC in their military coup of December 31, 1981 which overthrew the Limann administration.

He urged all Nkrumahist to work hard and follow up positive change with positive action.

Meanwhile, Mr. Francis Adu Jantuah, a former Minister of Agriculture in the Nkrumah regime, has described the two-year role of the NPP as a failure.

According to him, the NPP has failed the nation as the unemployment situation they promised to address keeps on increasing day in and day out.

Adu Jantuah urged politicians to desist from the act of practising stomach politics since that will not augur well for the development of democracy.

"The NPP is building a state where a section of Ghanaians will be rich because they are practising neo-liberal democracy," he pointed out.

According to Jantuah by the end of this year, CPP will open offices in all the 18 districts in Ashanti region to enable them communicate with the grassroots and improve upon its membership drive.

"Our present weakness as leaders and members are unpardonable in the face of our fervent beliefs, ideology and philosophy."

"As leaders of the party we epitomize all the vision and leadership symbol and the torch-bearer of the development and the way forward for the party," he disclosed.

The former minister said the key to the success of Ghana's development is in the hands of CPP and added "having tried NDC and NPP, Ghanaians ought to give the CPP the chance to govern the nation and offer its best to Ghanaians."

Jantuah urged all CPP members who left the party because of the PNDC pressure to come home to enable them to build the party because it is awakened from its slumber.
