Founder of the All People’s Congress (APC), Hassan Ayariga, has stated that he believes the COVID-19 pandemic was more of a blessing than a punishment for Ghana and Ghanaians.

He argues that only an ignorant person would view COVID-19 as a punishment for Ghanaians.

According to Ayariga, during the COVID-19 era, Ghana received significant support and funds from various sources through the government.

He also pointed out that the government continues to tax people for COVID-19-related expenses whenever purchases are made.

To buttress his point, Ayariga mentioned that when he recently cleared his car at the port, he was charged GH¢400,000, of which GH¢40,000 was a COVID-19 levy.

He made these remarks during a yet-to-be-aired interview on GhanaWeb TV’s Election Desk programme with reporter Etsey Atisu.

"It is only an ignorant person who will sit down and see COVID as a punishment to Ghanaians rather than a blessing. COVID took lives but it also came back in the form of blessings to Ghanaians because Ghana was given a lot of billions of cedis and support. Till date, government of Ghana is still charging people COVID Levy, so what are you telling me? I just cleared my car. I paid almost GH¢400,000 to clear one car and the COVID charges on it was almost GH¢40,000," he said.
