Dorcas Affo-Toffey is Deputy Minister-designate for Transport
Deputy Transport Minister-designate, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has disclosed that only four out of ten electric buses currently delivered to Ghana are operational, despite an initial order of 100 buses.
She made this known during her vetting by Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Friday, July 25, 2025.
According to her, the remaining six buses have developed faults with their charging systems, but the issue has since been resolved by the Ministry in collaboration with the supplier.
“Ten electric buses are currently in Ghana. Of course, 100 were ordered, but only ten have been delivered so far. Four of them are operational, while the other six had issues with the charging system. However, the Minister has resolved the matter after engaging with the company,” she stated.
Affo-Toffey assured the Committee of her commitment to supporting the Minister of Transport in ensuring that Ghana aligns with the global shift toward electric vehicles.
She emphasised that the transition to clean transportation solutions is essential, as countries around the world adopt sustainable mobility technologies.
Her vetting formed part of the final batch of four deputy ministerial nominees announced in a statement dated July 10, 2025, by the Minister of State in charge of Government Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
Other nominees vetted alongside her included:
• Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah, MP for Essikado-Ketan and Deputy Minister-designate for Health;
• Mohammed Adam Sukparu, MP for Sissala West and Deputy Minister-designate for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation; and
• James Gyakye Quayson, MP for Assin North and Deputy Minister-designate for Foreign Affairs.
Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin officially referred the nominees to the Appointments Committee on Thursday, July 17, 2025.
Once approved, their appointments will complete President John Dramani Mahama’s team of 60 ministers, in line with his 2024 campaign pledge.
