The Electoral Commission (EC) has confirmed that only the thumb will be allowed to be used on the voting day as required by the law. According to the Electoral Commission where for some reasons both thumbs are lost, the Presiding Officer with other officials will decide which finger to be used.
The Deputy Chairman of the Electoral Commission in charge of operations, Kwadwo Sarfo Kantanka gave the confirmation at a joint news conference by the Electoral Commission and the Inter-party Advisory Committee in Accra.
He said the Electoral Commission will not allow any violence at any polling station. On proxy voting he said only limited proxy was allowed by the commission. He said 2,000 forms were sent to Ghana’s Foreign Missions, while the Army was given 3,000 and the police was given 1,000. Out of these Mr. Kwadwo Kantanka said the Commission has received 912 of the proxy from the Army and 141 from the foreign missions. He said the commission is yet to receive that from the police. The Deputy Chairman said all the political parties have been given the updated register on a CD ROM.
However, he said further deletion have been made on the register as a result of deaths. Mr. Kantanka said those who have their names on the voters register but have lost their voter ID cards will be allowed to vote.
On the voter transfer, he said the Electoral Commission is still clearing those who made the transfer and those who do not meet the criteria will have their transfer turned down. The Deputy Chairman said 12 point four million people are eligible to vote in the elections.
