The Emile Short Commission that probed the violence that marred the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election has recommended that a Ministerial directive be issued reminding all state operatives of the need to respect the citizen’s privacy, except as authorized by judicial orders.

“The Commission recommends strict adherence to the rules on searches and seizures, especially as regards respect for the privacy of the citizens,” the confidential report available to Kasapafmonline.com read in part.

The residence of the opposition NDC Parliamentary Candidate in that by-election, Delali Kwasi Brempong, on election day came under attack by some National Security Operatives on suspicion that a stockpile of weapons had been kept there.

In the process of trying to forcefully undertake a search in the house, some persons were shot and wounded.

The Commission of Inquiry has also recommended the dissolution of the SWAT team at the National Security Council Secretariat.

It further recommended that operatives should be re-assigned to their respective units after disbanding the SWAT team.

“The Commission recommends that the SWAT team of the National Security Council Secretariat should be disbanded and operatives be reassigned as appropriate,” the report recommended.
