Tema, July 24, GNA - Bernice Fiati, a 25 year-old Ashaiman-based orange seller who stabbed Emmanuel Kofi Appiah, 23, during a scuffle over a change was on Monday remanded in custody by the Tema Circuit Court 'B'.
Fiati told the court that, she stabbed the deceased with a knife on the left side of his chest because he assaulted her on Saturday July 22, 2006 when she wanted change for a customer. She pleaded not guilty to murder and would reappear on August 21, 2006.
The packed court, presided over by Mr Nicholas Mensah Abodakpi, heard that on July 22 this year, the Ashaiman police received a report from one Yaw Athiah, who had a knife wounds on their bodies that Fiati had stabbed a man with a knife at a bus terminal and that they were also wounded in their attempts to rescue Appiah, now deceased.
Chief Inspector Nutakor further said Fiati was arrested by a civilian and escorted to the Ashaiman police later where he admitted committing the offence.
The police had a hectic time escorting the accused from the court as the premises were taken over by an angry mob from Ashaiman, threatening to lynch her.
