Director of Elections of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo has called on President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to organize orientation programme for his Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs).

Mr. Ofosu Ampofo said this following a remark of the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Upper Denkyira West, Daniel Appianing, on the lynching of the late Capt. Maxwell Mahama.

The DCE, reacting on Adom FM on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, said the deceased was a leader of a military detachment dispatched to the community to protect some Chinese illegal miners.

“There is a large number of military personnel protecting the Chinese that the lynched soldier is alleged to be part of it, in fact he is said to be the leader . . . I am shocked they are not briefing you very well but rather claiming they are here to fight galamseyers,” he stated.

The DCE's claim didn't sink well with Mr. Ofosu Ampofo who is asking the President to orient his appointees with governance techniques.

He found the DCE's claims very unfortunate, stating emphatically that "with immediate effect, they should assemble all their MMDCEs and organize an orientation programme for them about the work of a DCE . . . one of the things that a government does very quickly is that after getting your MMDCEs confirmed, immediately within one week time, you assemble all of them and give them orientation for the experts to educate them. . . you need to switch them from the campaign mode immediately to governance mode. It requires training. It requires capacity building.”

Mr. Ofosu Ampofo also condemned the lynching of the Military Captain and expressed condolences to the deceased family.

He further urged the security agencies to give “radical attention to national security and the situation that we’re facing today” in order to avert any violent acts in the offing.
